Moving and playing into November

Nov 02 2017

It's hard to believe November is here. We had a blast in music during October. You might have heard your children singing some fun songs like 'Spider on the Floor', One Little Owl, and their all-time favorite- BOO. As we move into November, we will continue to focus on participation in singing, movement, instrument playing, and listening (the hardest of them all :):

 Bunny & Lamb classes:

  • We have some great dancers in these classes! The children are all learning how to sing each other's names, while learning who their friends are in class. One skill we are really focusing on is listening- can they follow the directions in the song in regards to movements, sounds, or instrument use? can they recall songs and sing along? Can they be patient and listen to a song?
  • We will be using our rhythm sticks to explore sounds and learn about steady beat. We will have fun fun tapping, scrapping, hammering, mixing, and the list goes on!

Chimp & Giraffe classes:

  • These classes are enjoying their first singer-leader experience. During each music class, the "leader of the day" gets to pick a special song out of Ms. Kristin's music bag. Then they get to hold my special microphone and help me lead the rest of the class in singing.
  • In September and October, we focused a lot on interest in music by using scarves for dance and movement, and, egg shaker instruments.
  • We will be using our rhythm sticks to explore sounds and learn about steady beat. We will have fun fun tapping, scrapping, hammering, mixing, and the list goes on!

Kanga, Zebra, & Panda classes:

  • Our 4s classes had a lot of fun learning the 'pass the pumpkin' song and activity in October.
  • Like last year, we continue the singer-leader experience. During each music class, the "leader of the day" gets to pick a special song out of Ms. Kristin's music bag. Then they get to hold my special microphone and help me lead the rest of the class in singing.
  • Even though it is only November, I just introduced the December performance songs to all of the 4s classes- what fast learners! With each visit, we will practice singing and memorizing 1-2 Christmas songs in preparation for December.
  • We will continue to spend time on steady beat, while also discussing tempo (the speed of music) and dynamics (the volume of music). We will do this through singing, moving, and using instruments like our rhythm sticks and hand drums.

Dandy class:

  • October was a good time to be in dandy music! We played pass the pumpkin, we learned the hot potato listening game, and we played a variety of instruments while listening(and reading along with) to a monster story.
  • Like last year, we continue the singer-leader experience. During each music class, the "leader of the day" gets to pick a special song out of Ms. Kristin's music bag. Then they get to hold my special microphone and help me lead the rest of the class in singing.
  • Even though it is only November, I just introduced the December performance songs. With each visit, we will practice singing and memorizing 1-2 Christmas songs in preparation for December. If we can learn them fairly easily, I am hoping to incorporate a few instruments into their performance.
  • We will continue to spend time on steady beat, while also discussing tempo (the speed of music) and dynamics (the volume of music). We will do this through singing, moving, and using instruments like our rhythm sticks and hand drums.
  • The dandy class will start to learn about quarter notes and quarter rests while singing, clapping, and playing instruments
